Yesterday marked our baby’s negative ten week (plus or minus) birthday. Every week it seems like being pregnant gets a little more fun and interactive. This morning, Tiny had the hiccups, he or she was squirming around, and every couple seconds, there was a very distinct “hic”. I think that tiny baby hiccups are my favorite “pregnancy” thing so far. I’ve heard a lot about rib kicks and other jabs in the womb, but this baby seems to be more of a tumbler. We love to sit around and watch the undulations in my tummy, a head or an elbow poke out, move left or right. Sometimes the somersaults are so sudden and big, that it almost feels like I’m on a rollercoaster. I just can’t wait to meet, face-to-face, this tiny person that we’ve been getting to know over the past 7 months!
We would like to officially announce to those that follow our blog that a tiny Hockett is brewing. This Saturday marks the end of the first trimester (secret phase) and we are looking forward to the second trimester (cute belly but not yet fat and uncomfortable phase). The estimated arrival date is September 27, plus or minus two weeks. We will not be finding out if it’s a boy or a girl until the baby comes, so bring on the gender neutral decorating ideas!

We’re running in a 10K tomorrow. For all those who aren’t familiar with the metric (better) system it’s supposed to be 6.1 miles. I say “supposed” because it isn’t actually a 10K at all, it’s more like a 9 point something K. You see, apparently the people in charge of deciding on how long the race should be (Santa Cruzianitonians) decided to throw out this SI system mumbo jumbo and make it a 6 mile race instead. The race is called the “Wharf to Wharf, Santa Cruz to Capitola”. There will be Lisa and I and 13,998 other competitors. I’m shooting to place in the top 10,000. We’ll see how we do. I’m looking forward to seeing the Kenyans jogging back to the starting line while we pass mile 3. I’ve been preparing for this race the whole day. My carbo loading has consisted of Honey Nut Cheerios, a Whopper value meal, Doritos, and polenta from tonight’s dinner. Extreme!
